YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A case of alleged child abuse is under investigation in York County.

SLED identified their suspects as Robert Jeffrey Taylor, 45, and Audrey Schurig, 36, on Friday.

Taylor is accused of abuse to inflict great bodily injury on a child. Both parents are charged with child neglect.

The abuse charge alone could warrant 20 years in prison.

Taylor was an officer with York Police when the alleged crime happened. He was employed there as recently as last month and has since resigned. Schurig is employed with Chester Police as a sergeant and has been suspended without pay.

They have been booked into Mecklenburg County Jail.

On Facebook, family members have identified the victim as baby boy. A birth announcement says he was born in fall. The boy is currently at Carolinas Medical Center.
