JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man faces charges after allegedly repeatedly slapping a child and manhandling his roommate when the roommate intervened.
Eric De’Shawn Lynch, 23, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of felony child abuse and misdemeanor battery, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Lynch is being held on $60,000 bond at the Duval County detention facility.
The roommate overheard Lynch yelling and the child victim crying in the bathroom about 10 p.m. that night, the report said. When he went to find out what the commotion was about, he saw Lynch — listed in the report as 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds — slapping the child multiple times on the face, the roommate told investigators.
That’s when the roommate stepped in and confronted Lynch, who “became irate,” according to the report. Lynch turned and came after the roommate, elbowing him in the lip and putting him in a headlock, the report said. Afterward, the roommate left the apartment and walked over to a neighbor’s where he called 911.
Investigators found a bloody scratch mark on the child’s shoulder and bruises on the roommate’s lip, according to the report. A portion of the report detailing Lynch’s interview with police was redacted from the report.
Lynch was previously arrested in North Carolina in June 2011 and charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and two counts of unlawful sale, delivery or possession of a pistol, according to Myrtle Beach Online.
Those charges, the website reports, stemmed from an armed robbery at a convenience store followed by a drive-by shooting — on the same day, April 13, 2011.
