Police say Juan Zea turned himself into police on Monday. He is charged with failure to report child abuse.
Austin, Texas – An assistant principal with Walnut Creek Elementary School has been charged with failure to report child abuse after a school bus driver was charged with sexual abuse of a six-year-old student.
According to the Austin Independent School District, Juan Zea has been charged with failure to report child abuse, a Class A misdemeanor.
AISD says Zea had knowledge of the alleged offense in January and late March and failed to report it to the appropriate authorities. Zea has not been on campus since April 22, and he resigned May 6.
A previous affidavit said that Zea warned former AISD bus driver Leon Young about inappropriate activity after seeing him with his hands on a child’s back.
“We are doing everything in our power to investigate the matter and follow any and all leads into how this happened. We take these matters very seriously and are committed to the well-being of our students,” said AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz.
AISD says the AISD Police Department issued the arrest warrant.
