Coney Island, NY – Greta Hawkins, the Coney Island principal who once barred kids from singing “God Bless the USA,” was returned to PS 90 last week despite investigators finding she improperly handled a kid’s sexual-abuse claims.

“We are continuing to review this case and discipline is pending,” said Department of Education spokeswoman Devora Kaye.

Hawkins and assistant principal Gayle Gordon, who also returned to the school, were both suspended on May 14.

Hawkins failed to immediately report to child-welfare authorities, as required by law, that a student confided about sexual abuse at home.

Finally, cops received a 911 call from someone at the school. Detectives concluded the troubled child had fabricated a story to get attention.

The principals union insisted that Hawkins be returned, a demand the DOE did not fight, sources said.

Suspect in ‘Horrific’ Waitsburg Child Beating Arrested

Walla Walla, WA – Authorities have apprehended a Waitsburg man accused of severely injuring his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son at their residence Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Tysen R. Beckner, 25, of 711 Coppei St., No. 1, was booked into the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center in Lewiston, Idaho, Thursday night on an arrest warrant issued that afternoon by Walla Walla County Superior Court. He was taken into custody by Nez Perce County sheriff’s deputies.

Beckner is charged with first-degree assault of a child — domestic violence. Bail is set at $100,000.

Extradition proceedings are pending.

The boy, whose name wasn’t released, was transported from his Waitsburg home by ambulance paramedics Thursday to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.

He then was transferred to a Spokane hospital for further examination and treatment of “horrific multiple bruises about his head, face, neck, shoulder, back, torso, legs and arms,” according to a Sheriff’s Office report filed in court.

Beckner and the child’s mother, Shaylynn M. Johnson, were at the Whiskey Creek Sports Bar & Grill in Waitsburg on Wednesday evening, the report says.

“Tysen had gotten into a fight at the bar but was sent on his way, while Shaylynn was arrested on outstanding warrants and transported to jail.”

The boy reportedly spent the night with Beckner.

Then, Thursday morning, a woman acquainted with the family went to the apartment, saw the boy’s injuries and authorities were notified. Beckner reportedly was there at the time.

At the hospital, “Sgt. Gary Bolster observed the child to have virtually complete red and blue marks covering his face and head and on other parts of his body,” the Sheriff’s Office report says.

The boy also suffered bite marks.

He was able to say that Beckner threw him against a coffee table because he didn’t eat his dinner, and at one point put his head in the toilet, according to officials.

The boy reportedly couldn’t provide much more information because of the level of his injuries and pain medication he was given.
