2 Pima County jail inmates assault mom facing Child Abuse charges

Tucson, AZ  –  A mother facing child abuse charges after her daughter was severely burned in a bathtub was attacked by two Pima County jail inmates, an official said.

Samantha Osteraas, who initially declined protective custody, had her life threatened, and she was punched and her hair pulled, said Lt. Elsa Navarro of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday.

The incident occurred Jan. 11 in the living area of a housing unit, said Navarro, who oversees the jail’s special management housing.

Since then, Osteraas was placed in protective custody.  She received medical treatment, but her injuries were not serious, Navarro said.

Osteraas was booked into jail Jan. 5 on two counts of child abuse after her 5-year-old daughter suffered third-degree burns to 80 percent of her body during a Dec. 29 incident, according to Pima County Superior Court documents.

“She was assaulted by a couple of inmates who saw the news, and told her it was retaliation because she hurt her child,” Navarro said.

Osteraas reported the assault after it occurred, and detectives conducted an investigation.

The inmates involved were disciplined internally, each receiving days of solitary confinement to their quarters, said Navarro.

  1. I honestly hate how people think everyone should have kids because kids are supposed to be a serious commitment for raising our future, nit a necessity or punishment. I also hate that unrealistic idea that mothers are always better than dads because they can be just as abusive. I hope that abusive bitch gets a very suitable punishment.

    1. You know, I am glad that you realize that Mother’s are NOT better than Dads, but you are wrong about Mother’s being just as abusive.
      1 – Sorry, but Dad’s are the best parent.
      2 – Women abuse Children over 10% higher rate than Men.

      1. Well, yeah, I agree. As for dads, yes, they can be better than moms when they want to be (sadly, not all dads are like that either, but still). And yes, at least 40% of child victims have been mistreated by their mothers acting alone; another 18.3% have been mistreated by their fathers acting alone; one more 17.3% have been abused by both parents. Anyway, the government needs to stop rewarding mothers and other losers for having kids; all court systems (including family courts) should start giving babies to their dads if the dads actually know how to take care of their babies. BTW, there are men out there who honestly just want to have kids and would therefore, make very great dads and this article still makes me wonder where that poor kid’s dad is. Society needs to wake the fuck up.
