Latest trends in U.S. Child Sex Trafficking

Today we are excited to share our newest research.  Survivors have graciously allowed us to hear their stories, and in order for us all to be a part of the solution, we’re excited to share their stories with you.

Explore the Findings

Participants’ age of entry into the life

  • Youngest age of entry was less than 1-year-old
  • One in six were under the age of 12
  • Most frequently reported age is 15

Two themes in U.S. child sex trafficking emerged from this report:

  1. Technology is playing an increasing role in grooming and controlling victims of child sex trafficking.  75% of victims who entered the life in the past decade were advertised online.
  2. Less familiar forms of child trafficking, including those trafficked by family members or without a clear trafficker, are emerging.  80% of all victims under 10 were trafficked by a family member.

Without survivor input, our anti-trafficking movement risks wasting time and resources — and most importantly, endangering children.  We are truly grateful to all of the organizations and survivors that shared their stories and made this work possible.

Today is #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay, and our research also showed that 2 out of 3 survivors never saw a help resource during their abuse.  You can change that by sharing the Human Trafficking hotline today everywhere you have a community on social media.

  2. Thanks for this great post!! I love your call to action. Social media is an excellent form of communication about human trafficking relief. A favorite form of communication of mine is flyers and business cards with hotline numbers on it. These can be left in bathrooms, hotel rooms, etc. Pens and other objects can be given directly to workers as well.

      I have to think you are at least partly “old school”.
      But just to let you know, along with any of our new Followers, We started out on Google as a one page gift to Google and the users, on August 19, 2014. Eveeryone said “no this is your idea” but without the group that took me in, which was a major percentage of U.S. Veterans (I was a Veterans Advocate from Facebook).
      We fund everything(the 2 Co-Founders}, and Our main Resources are the Advisors(Veterans in #OurCircle). I will tell you that we have amassed an unbelievable amount of resources to pass on to the public from good, caring people like The DOJ, NCMEC, CDC, The Mayo Clinic, The ABA, etc…
      But we have also come up with research and Think-Tank material that belongs to #ArkOfHopeForChildren and #NotInMyWorld; that being a way to save Children’s lives from dying in hot vehicles, instead of a monitor that costs thousands of dollars and comes in a new car.
      We simply believe if everyone used Our Hash Tag #HotVehicles Are Not #BabySitters, it would wake a whole bunch of people up, and then if parents set a task in their smart phone, and hit sleeper until thgeir Child is safely at the Babysitter, or safely in their own home after work or shopping, it would save so many lives.

      1. Wow! That’s amazing. I’m old school but still in school. I’m trying to figure out what to do when I get out! I’m passionate about human trafficking but I’m still trying to decide whether I should work for an established anti-trafficking non-profit or if I should go off on my own and work on whatever projects inspire me. I hear stories like yours, where people’s ideas are supported and I lean towards the latter. Let me know if you have any advice!
