5 year-old Brother tries to defend 3 year-old Sister

New York City Studying Child Safety at Shelters After a Death

The New York Times
By WINNIE HU and J. DAVID GOODMAN   OCT. 20, 2014

Officers responding to 911 calls found a 3-year-old girl dying, her 5-year-old brother beaten and Mr. Smith on the run. The motive for the killing provided another shock: the rage that ended in the death of the girl, Jeida Torres, was prompted by little more than a pair of soiled pants, investigators theorize.

Mr. Smith, 20, was arrested hours after Jeida’s death at an aunt’s house in Queens, where relatives said he slit his wrists, apparently in a suicide attempt.  He will face second-degree murder and other charges, said Kenneth P. Thompson, the Brooklyn district attorney.  The girl’s death was ruled a homicide on Monday by the medical examiner’s office, citing the cause of death as “blunt impact injuries of head and torso.”  The police said there had been no previous calls about domestic violence at the second-floor apartment, where the recently married couple had been living since July, or calls related to Ms. Torres and her children. A spokesman for the Administration for Children’s Services declined to comment on any previous involvement with the family.

The 5-year-old boy, Andrew, may have sought to intervene on behalf of his sister before being struck himself, officials said. He remained hospitalized at Wyckoff Hospital on Sunday.

Still, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday that his administration was doing an internal investigation of the city’s procedures and reviewing domestic violence and child safety in shelters as officials sought to understand what happened, and to prevent it from happening again.  We are all deeply saddened by the senseless death of an innocent child, and we are all responsible for our children’s safety,” Mr. de Blasio said in a statement. “We must find out what went wrong and what we could have done differently to avoid this terrible outcome.

Camille Rivera, a deputy commissioner for the Department of Homeless Services, said the agency would take immediate steps, including reviewing intake procedures to get more information about any domestic violence and child abuse histories, and reviewing tools to assess and better understand family dynamics and any potential safety threats to children or caretakers.

Welcome to Our World

Blessing, in the form of Our Circle

Something different today, we would like to know how you feel about Our new website…. OK, I am a bit scattered, I lookup from (uh-ohhhh, why are they both standing in front of me, and why are they both stareing at me) MY NOTEBOOK!!!!  OK, all clear.  That was Lia and Aida, the StrongBow Women;  bearing gifts in the form of a thermometer, a cool wet cloth, some kind of pills, a snack, and 500 questions.

I had mostly intended this for Our Circle, on our Google+ Page NOT IN MY WORLD!!!!, and thought I had made reference to the Comment Guidelines page and the About Our World page, since I thought this post was published about 7 hours ago. Sometimes waking up feeling a bit scattered is not such a bad thing if you just happen to remember that you have forgotten to do something REALLY IMPORTANT….  like introduce yourself to the WordPress Community

I am Blackhorn33, Administrator of NOT IN MY WORLD!!!! and the Google+ page of the same name.  I remember hearing some reference to “your own little world” or “yall’s own little world” for a good part of my life, and I never had to give it any consideration because the storm was here, and Dr Frankenstein(Frank) stood ready to attach the leads to the electrodes.  “Say When Dr Frankenstein”(Dr Frankenstein Frank shouting across the laboratory to Dr Frankenstein Blackhorn33), and with a nod I said “WHEN”, and just as a Woman screamed in the audience, someone backstage hollered out “IT’S ALIVE”!!!!

I didn’t have to look to validate what I knew already;  for in the length of a nanosecond, all the weight in the world had been lifted from our shoulders.  All of our hopes and dreams was reality and complete, and the Child Abuse and Indifference that followed with us from our youth, fled from it’s presence.

All I have left to say could take a lifetime, because it took a lifetime to see this day.  The people I owe, and will leave this world oweing, don’t go by no fancy rough-tough names like “The Wild Bunch” nor “The Hole-In-The-Wall Gang”.  Although a major part of them have traveled many miles, many times, out of Our Country, to places all over the world, even under water close to The North Pole in a submarine, all the while prepared to give their lives to keep US A FREE NATION.  We got a couple of CowBoys, a couple of CEOs, several very good Attorneys, one we call Medic, a Rabbit who takes care of us all, a Foster Parent who retired protecting us, an old friend who became a Ferrier one time who just came back into Our Life, Together We Heal, and many more I will mention later.  We Call Ourselves OUR CIRCLE, but without MY 2 GOLDHEARTS this point in time would be very different. Thank You J. L. and Lynda

Police: Texas Soldier Beat Daughter To Death

Posted 12:45 pm, September 22, 2014, by AP Wire
While testing different search syntax, and noting the differences in how the news was filtered, I found this… 4 hours ago.
Two months ago, while putting together the NOT IN MY WORLD!!!! Google+ Page, I had already decided not to bring mine and Little Brother’s life into this.

The first part of our life wasn’t half bad. The reason being, it was spent with The Best Man I was ever to know. Our Father was a Good Man, who loved us, His Boys.

But that was just half the time.

We lived in fear, day and night, the rest of the time. We spent a good part of our early life around Military People, and on several bases. Our Step-Dad was Army Secret Service in Korea, then spent time in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees. For as far back as I can remember, we always believed in GOD. I know this because we prayed for GOD to kill us everyday. But we always thought GOD was mad at us, maybe we had done something HE didn’t like, OR maybe he just didn’t like us.

We always went to church, and we were Bullyed and physically hurt every service, by several boys.  This happened In PLAIN SIGHT OF MANY ADULTS, who never said one word to stop them, but would laugh at us or snicker. I KNOW all this was real and happened, because we were BEAT after every service.

If I had said this 2 months ago, this Child might still be alive.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER Discipline A Child When You Are Angry!!!!

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso police have charged a Fort Bliss soldier with capital murder after they say he beat his 2-year-old daughter to death because she soiled her diaper.

Police Det. Mike Baranyay says 20-year-old Dartarious Graham was arrested Sunday.

He says the U.S. Army specialist beat his daughter, Peyton Graham, with a belt Saturday. When firefighters were called to the home, they found her unresponsive. She was taken to an area hospital where she later died.

The child’s mother and the father’s cousin also were charged with injury to a child by omission.

Graham is being held at the El Paso jail on $250,000 bond. Online jail records didn’t indicate an attorney.

Mom Charged In Alleged Horrific Child Abuse Case

Abusive Mother Tried To Sew Daughter’s Mouth Shut: Cops

The Huffington Post | By Sebastian Murdock
Pennsylvania authorities have arrested a 46-year-old woman on a litany of charges, accusing her of trying to sew her 16-year-old daughter’s mouth shut and eat cat litter, among other horrific acts.
Rana L. Cooper, a mother of seven children, has been the focus of an investigation that began at least six months ago. In a criminal complaint obtained by The Huffington Post, Cpl. Robert Copechal of the Pennsylvania State Police details a long list of abuses the teen suffered at the hands of her mother.
Authorities allege that the abuse may have started as soon as the child was adopted in 2008. Cooper’s husband, the adoptive father, was allegedly aware of at least some of the abuse. (Read the Criminal Complaint)

WARNING: GRAPHIC DETAILS OF ABUSE

The teenage victim told authorities that Cooper would not allow her to eat, drink, or even use the restroom until “points” were earned by cleaning the home. The victim alleged that because of this rule, she often soiled herself and did not drink for days.
The only time the girl could eat was after the rest of the family had already eaten, according to police. On multiple occasions, Cooper allegedly forced food into the chid’s mouth, inducing vomiting. In one instance, the suspect allegedly forced the child to eat cat litter. On another occasion, the victim told police Cooper would force her to “go into the bathroom and scrape her finger around the rim of the toilet and eat what was on her finger.”
The criminal complaint details more than a dozen instances of abuse. Cops allege that the mother once tried to sew the child’s mouth shut with a needle and thread, stopping only after piercing the child’s lower lip with a needle. Cooper often threatened to cut out the child’s tongue, police said.
If the victim did not listen to her parents, Cooper would forcefully jam a Q-tip into the teenager’s ear, causing it to bleed and leaving her partially deaf, the complaint reads. Cooper also allegedly attempted to gouge out the child’s eyes.
“Child states that mother was in her face and she closed her eyes tightly,” Copechal wrote in the report. “Child stated that mother took her finger and pushed in child’s eyes causing broken blood vessels in child’s eyes.”
Cooper allegedly hit the child numerous times with a hair brush, spit on her, and forced her to eat toothpaste. The child told police that she was allowed to eat once a day.

The police document also states:

Mother choked the child two times until child blacked out. Last time happened about a month before child was removed.
The child stated that father was present when mother was choking her. Child stated that father told mother to stop however mother did not. Child stated that father proceeded to just stand there and watch as mother continued to choke child.
The child’s father, 51-year-old Richard Cooper, told his wife he wanted a separation from her on Easter two years ago. Police said the mother blamed her adopted daughter for this. As punishment, Rana Cooper allegedly grabbed the girl by her neck and twisted it, then bit the child’s nose until it bled before slamming her onto the ground and punching her in the face.
In July, the victim told police her mother struck her in the face with a metal belt buckle, causing her eye to swell and become discolored.
One of the suspect’s seven children, 24-year-old Ronnie Cooper, told local station KDKA, that the allegations were all false.
“Nothing, none of that happened,” Ronnie Cooper said. “Like, I’m here every day, like, none of these [allegations] are true.”
In September, Rana Cooper admitted to police that she once submerged her daughter’s head under water “for approximately 3-10 seconds,” according to the complaint.
Cooper now faces charges including recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.  District court officials told the Star Tribune that Cooper does not have a lawyer on file.
HuffPost Crime called the Cooper residence, but no one in the family was willing to speak. Richard Cooper is not currently facing charges.  Rana Cooper has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 6.
The child no longer lives with the Cooper family.

American goes undercover to track down Child Traffickers

Last weekend, police broke up a major Child Sex Trafficking ring in Colombia, which has become a destination for tourists looking for sex with boys and girls.  The police had help from an American who went undercover to rescue the Children.

Tim Ballard has one mission: to track down Child Traffickers. Four months ago Colombian authorities asked him to investigate a tip that Children were being sold there as Sex Slaves.  “Within a half hour this individual walks up to me asking me what I’m here for, what I want and within minutes he tells me that I have kids here as young as 11 years old,” Ballard says.  A former Homeland Security agent, Ballard now heads up Operation Underground Railroad, a non-profit group that rescues trafficked kids. After that first meeting, the Colombians asked him to put together a sting.

Operation Underground Railroad spent months planning — renting a house, rigging it with hidden cameras to document the crime, coordinating with Colombian authorities and negotiating with the traffickers.  “How they find these kids is they lure them in by pretending to have a modeling agency,” Ballard explains. “They target them at nine- or 10-years-old and they were telling us that at about 11, they’re ready for sex. They’re ready to be sold.”  What is it like to look into that kind of person’s eyes?  “It’s horrifying and this is why: Because I have to smile in the face of evil,” Ballard says.

Less than 24 hours after the operatives landed, the suspected traffickers arrived on the island and the final deal with the undercover team began.  Fifty-four boys and girls, aged 11 to 18, were ushered in for what had been billed as a sex party. They were given candy and drinks and told to wait in a small room.  “This little 11-year-old boy, I remember, he asked… one of my operatives for some cocaine,” Ballard recalls with tears in his eyes. “He said, ‘They usually give me something because I’m really scared. To kind of numb myself.’”  By the time the deal was done, the alleged traffickers were set to make $25,000.  That transaction was never completed.

Twenty-five Colombian special operatives stormed the party, arresting five suspects — four men and one former beauty queen — all charged with Child TraffickingThe victims, 29 of whom are under 18, were evacuated, given medical exams and placed in a rehabilitation center where specialists are working to undo the damage.  “Right before we got on the boat, we walked by the room where the kids were and a couple of the kids came up to the screen,” Ballard says. “And they put their hand up on the window) and I go to touch their hand… and I see that there’s liberation now.  Liberation, one child at a time.
